Only a fool says "There is no God"

(Written by Peter Voigt)
Only fools say in their hearts,
‘There is no God.’
They are corrupt, and their actions are evil;
no one does good!” (Psalm 14:1, New Living Translation)

What does the bible mean with the above message?In this text, the Hebrew word for fool is “nabal” which refers more to a moral fool, someone without morals. It does not mean that a fool is an unintelligent person but the meaning of the text is “immoral people do not believe in God”. It is the lack of morals that leads a person to reject the existence of God and therefore try to clear their conscience and relieve themselves of guilt. It is hiding behind a lie to feel better and not to be accountable for their actions to God.

Standing on a busy train track, closing your eyes and covering your ears, saying: “There is no train coming”, will not change anything. You will know it when you get hit by the train and then it is too late to reverse your foolish decision. The same will happen if you say: “There is no God”. One day you will meet God if you believe it or not.

“And just as it is destined that each person dies only once and after that comes judgment”. (Hebrews 9:27, New Living Translation)
If you will tell people that you don’t have an earthly father, they will laugh at you and maybe call you a fool. It is not me who calls you a fool if you don’t believe in God. It is God himself who says: “I know who I am, but if you don’t believe I exist, then you are a fool”.

“From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see his invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God”. (Romans 1:20, New Living Translation)
Here scripture clearly tells us to look at the beauty of creation, to look at the universe, the stars and the most wonderful creation of the earth. The plants, grasses, flowers and trees all show that a creator is behind it. Did you know that on a huge oak tree there are not two leaves with exactly the same shape? Look at the animal world with its plentiful variations and the crown of creation, the human being. How marvellous is the human body created.

If these were not enough, there is also evidence of God in our own hearts. Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells us, “…He has also set eternity in the hearts of men.” Deep within us is the recognition that there is something beyond this life and someone beyond this world. We can deny this knowledge intellectually, but God’s presence in us and all around us is still obvious.

My friends open your eyes and see as you go through this world and acknowledge that there is a God who has created everything and therefore deserves to be honoured and worshipped.

“The heavens tell of the glory of God.
The skies display his marvellous craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak;
night after night they make him known.
They speak without a sound or word;
their voice is silent in the skies;
yet their message has gone out to all the earth,
and their words to all the world.” (Psalm 19:1-4, New Living Translation)

If you still believe that everything has evolved from a Big Bang then you’re a man who believes that throwing a dynamite stick in a printing house will produce an encyclopaedia. Certainly you would say, how ridiculous, that’s impossible. Continue thinking!!!

People claim to reject God’s existence because it is “not scientific” or “because there is no proof.” The true reason is that once they admit that there is a God, they also must realize that they are responsible to God and in need of forgiveness from Him (Romans 3:23, 6:23). If God exists, then we are accountable to Him for our actions. If God does not exist, then we can do whatever we want without having to worry about God judging us. That is why many of those who deny the existence of God cling strongly to the theory of naturalistic evolution—it gives them an alternative to believing in a Creator God. God exists and ultimately everyone knows that He exists. The very fact that some attempt so aggressively to disprove His existence is in fact an argument for His existence.

Mark Twain once wrote: “The first of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year.” Plainly he says that we are all fools all the times. Scripture says it with different words.

“For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet now God in his gracious kindness declares us not guilty. He has done this through Christ Jesus, who has freed us by taking away our sins. For God sent Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to satisfy God’s anger against us. We are made right with God when we believe that Jesus shed his blood, sacrificing his life for us. (Romans 3:23-25, New Living Translation)

Mark Twain was right in a certain way that we were all fools and sinners because we did not acknowledge God, for what He is. We didn’t give Him the honour and praise He deserves. We were all separated from God and there was no way back to Him. God himself prepared a way back for us through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.

As Christians, we know God exists because we speak to Him every day, we sense His presence, we feel His leading, we know His love and we desire His grace. Things have occurred in our lives that have no possible explanation other than God’s presence. God has so miraculously saved us and changed our lives that we cannot help but acknowledge and praise His existence. None of these arguments can persuade anyone who refuses to acknowledge what is so very obvious. In the end, God’s existence must be accepted by faith (Hebrews 11:6). Faith in God is not a blind leap into the dark; it is a safe step into a well-lit room where security, shelter and peace awaits you.
